Natural Food Products and “Clean Labeling”

Posted by: Megan on: 10 Jul, 2009

Consumers are becoming more aware of what they’re putting in their bodies, and food companies are making changes to meet the demand for healthier products.

According to this Food Business News article, consumers have shown more interest in organic and natural foods, while also becoming more concerned about additives, preservatives, and artificial colors. This presents an opportunity for ingredient suppliers to help make their customers’ products with fewer or more natural ingredients while achieving the same taste and texture.

Challenging as it is, many suppliers and manufacturers are stepping up to the plate and developing so-called ‘clean label products’ that are of a similar quality and cost as traditional products, but without the artificial additives.

Consumers are also demanding more straightforward marketing, communication and labeling, which has nudged companies to adjust their messages and simplify their labeling. This not only includes making the nutrition information easier to read, but also highlighting the product’s health benefits or natural/organic ingredients.

If you have a gourmet or specialty food product you’d like to take to market, or you’re interested in reformulating your product to make it more natural…let us know!
